After a quick behind the scenes look of the new Beats By Dre commercial, I finally get to introduce you to my homie Michael Trevino! I met this kid a little over a year when I dropped my first Infinity Piece, Michael called up and purchased 1 of the 12 pieces made. Breaking into acting was never easy in LA or anywhere for that matter and it’s sure not getting any easier. I am super motivated by Trevino’s hustle because it’s entirely different than my own, at the end of the day any creative hustle is one you can learn from no matter what that creative may be. This episode showcases a lot and at the same time just a glimpse, but here we go from LA to ATL to the Lake, to BBQ, to the gym, to the skatepark, to set, and so much more!

Although my recent trip to South Africa wasn’t necessarily the smoothest, it’s always a great experience to see this beautiful country. I went to attend a great showcase entitled Str.Crd which can be described as an awesome look into the budding cultures of shoes, clothing, music and art all within Johannesburg and it’s surrounding areas. This video turned out nothing like I meant for it to but I’m actually really happy it didn’t because I like it a lot more the way it is! I met a dope music artist while there named Riky Rick, I saw him perform a song called “Pink Champagne” and thought it would be perfect juxtaposition for all the footage I shot. It’s interesting that what you hear and what you see don’t really go together but they feel together.

Miguel & I have been working on getting this episode together for months! This episode of MK feels and looks very different. I wanted to show you what Miguel’s life really looks like, instead of trying to explain it to you. We shot in LA, we shot in NY, we shot in the studio, we shot at the shows, we shot at the casting, we shot at the shoot….we got it all! Back for the second time! Me & Nigel started shooting this earlier in the year in NYC. Once we shot on Broadway I had the idea to bring Nigel to Sunset since it was the first time we would get to film in LA! So we started at Sunset & Doheny and took it all the way over to Highland! This episode is special for a multitude of reasons. First, I have wanted to shoot an episode with Dave since I started Maestro Knows as the title has nothing to do with anything that I know but actually shooting everything in the style that I know which I learned through skateboarding. I grew up looking at Swift photos in Transworld since I was about 12 years old, his name was a brand to me before I came to meet him as a person. I am super happy now to watch this completed episode where you can see what a rad guy he is and how hard he still rips on his board!

Maestro Knows – Special Edition (Tim “LIVEWIRE” Shieff)

This episode right here has been in the works for a LONG time. Last week, completely unplanned I got to shoot Tim and his friend Jan while in London. Usually when I compile my episodes I’ll start cutting sequences together to a song and that’ll be that, done deal. Well, with this piece it went a little different. I cut selects and laid a song just for reference and it was so perfect that I didn’t imagine I would replace it until I played this Public Enemy over it. I take pride a lot of times in combining things that rarely would come together in another medium. When I watch this and listen to the lyrics it actually makes perfect sense and surprisingly brought tears to my eyes a few times. This lifestyle, these videos, the stories that I tell….sometimes the thought of it becomes mundane but the fight never does. Through being hassled, sterotyped, misunderstood, or whatever the struggle may be, the message remains loud, we are continuing to love the way we live and to live the way we love. There’s a lot of time, energy, and heart put into something that becomes great.

From gambling at Manny’s for breakfast, to Kevin’s workout, shootaround with Diddy, running into BJ The Chicago Kid, and Maestro being awarded his own official NBA jersey this serves as the longest episode of Maestro Knows yet.
